4 Best Credit Cards for Streaming Services: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime

Credit cards that offer rewards for popular streaming services like Netflix and Hulu have been turning up more and more. And just in time, too.

Between Disney’s new Marvel and Star Wars lineups, HBO’s box office movie deals, Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series, and the slew of series and movies Netflix has been churning out, it’s safe to say the age of streaming is in full swing. But unfortunately, each one requires its own subscription plan. Meaning another monthly charge withdrawn from your bank account.

If you, like me, are (for better or worse) a fan of all of this new content, your monthly bill is probably getting a little higher than you’d like. With the cards compiled here, you could get a little money back for your binge-watching habits.

Quick Guide

What Streaming Services Are Eligible?

Eligible streaming services usually include, but may not be limited to:

  • Netflix
  • HBO Max
  • Disney+
  • Hulu
  • ESPN+
  • Amazon Video
  • YouTube Premium
  • Spotify
  • Apple Music
  • Audible

Best for Highest Reward Rate

The Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express (Review) offers the highest cash back rate for streaming services of any card.

And while it does have an annual fee, its other bonus categories do a good job of covering for it. Between the rewards you’ll earn from streaming, U.S. supermarket purchases, and U.S. gas station purchases, you should be able to cover it pretty easily. Redeem that cash back for statement credits and you’ll likely barely notice that fee.

Even if you have just two streaming services that sit around $15 per month for a total of $30, you’d get $1.80 back in your pocket. Now that may not seem like much, but over the course of a year that adds up to $21.60, which covers almost a month of subscriptions. And if you, like me, have more than just two streaming subscriptions, you’ll get even more back.

Spending Rewards
  • 6% cash back:
    • U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 spent annually, then 1%)
    • Select U.S. streaming services
  • 3% cash back:
    • U.S. gas stations
    • Transit
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases
Introductory Bonus
  • $300 statement credit for spending $3,000 in the first 6 months
Insider tip

If your credit card has bonus categories for grocery stores, gas stations, department stores, or anywhere else that sells gift cards, but not for streaming services, there’s a way you can still earn good rewards for your favorite platforms.

If you head to the grocery store, for example, and buy a Netflix gift card, your reward rate at grocery stores will typically apply to the purchase. That means you’ll effectively be getting your grocery store reward rate for Netflix. This trick applies to any gift card the store might carry.

More Cards With High Rewards

  • The U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card gives you more flexibility in where you can earn than most cards. You can choose two 5% cash back categories (good for your first $2,000 in combined purchases each quarter), and one of your choices is streaming services.
  • The Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card (Review) offers 3X points per dollar for eligible streaming services. And because your points are worth 1 cent, it gives a 3% cash back equivalent.
  • The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card (Review) features 5% cash back for Amazon Prime Video purchases (and Amazon Prime), so if that’s your only streaming service, this would be a good card to choose. This version of the card requires an Amazon Prime membership.

Best for Rotating Reward Categories

The Chase Freedom Flex℠ (Review) is one of the most rewarding and versatile cards around, all for no annual fee. It features both static and rotating rewards.

Every quarter you’ll get a new selection of 5% cash back reward categories. They cover a wide array of purchases, which can occasionally include select streaming services. This can be a very rewarding card for streaming, when that category becomes available. Outside of those three months, however, you’ll only earn 1% cash back for your streams.

Spending Rewards
  • 5% cash back on:
    • Travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards
    • Lyft rides (through March 2022)
  • 5% cash back in rotating categories, up to $1,500 in spending each quarter, then 1%
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases
Introductory Bonus
  • $200 bonus for spending $500 in the first 3 months
Insider tip

Some subscription services let you prepay for the full year, or half the year, at a time. That means if you choose a card with rotating categories, when the streaming services category comes around, you could pay for more than just one month at a time in order to maximize your rewards.

As of February 2021, HBO will let you prepay for six months, Hulu lets you pay for a year, and you can pay for a full year of Amazon Prime which includes Amazon Video.

Key Features

  • Three-month DoorDash membership: Subscribe for a free DashPass for three months, which provides free shipping and reduced service fees on orders over $12. You’ll be automatically enrolled in DashPass for 50% off for the next nine months.

  • Chase Credit Journey: Monitor your credit with free access to your VantageScore 3.0, based on your TransUnion credit report, and receive helpful insight into the factors influencing the score.

  • Travel protections: Travel and emergency assistance services, roadside dispatch, rental car insurance, and trip cancellation/interruption insurance
  • Purchase APR: 0% for 15 months, then 14.99% – 23.74% Variable
  • Annual fee: $0

Best for Streaming Benefits

The U.S. Bank Altitude® Go Visa Signature® Card (Review) has a pretty rare perk for a no annual fee credit card.

Once a year you’ll get a $15 credit you can put towards your streaming service bill. You’ll need to use your card to pay for a streaming service for 11 consecutive months in order to qualify, however. But once you hit that mark, you’ll have $15 less to worry about. It’s a unique aspect to a pretty solid (literally, this card is metal!) credit card.

In addition to the annual streaming credit, you’ll earn 2X points per dollar on eligible streaming services. Your points are worth 1 cent, so that works out to a 2% cash back equivalent. If your streaming bill is $30, that means you’d earn $7.20 for the whole year. That would increase to $22.20 once you factor in the annual streaming credit.

Spending Rewards
  • 4X points per dollar at Restaurants
  • 2X points per dollar for:
    • Grocery stores
    • Grocery delivery
    • Streaming services
    • Gas stations
  • 1X point per dollar on all other purchases
Introductory Bonus
  • 20,000 bonus points for spending $1,000 in the first 90 days

Key Features

The U.S. Bank Altitude Go is a Visa Signature card, so it’ll likely come with a selection of shopping and travel protections among other perks. However, U.S. Bank doesn’t specifically disclose what those will be. Below are the benefits we can say for sure will come with your card. For the others, you’ll need to check your Guide to Benefits that comes with your card.

  • Annual $15 streaming credit: As long as you’ve made 11 consecutive monthly streaming service payments, whether they be for Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, Amazon Music, or others, you’ll qualify for an annual $15 streaming credit.
  • Check one of your credit scores: View your VantageScore 3.0 credit score based on your TransUnion credit report, anytime you like.
