10 fun things to do in NYC while attending Inman Connect New York

Inman Connect New York is where you need to be to put your real estate business on the fast track. Over just a few days, you can establish strategic partnerships, develop lucrative referrals and gain insights into how new technologies are transforming the industry.

Inman Connect New York is less than four weeks away. Hopefully, you’re already picking out what you’ll wear and planning out how you’ll spend your time in all of the sessions. But let me point out something to you – you’ll be in the heart of Manhattan while you’re at ICNY.

Obviously, you’ll be pretty busy throughout the three days of learning, attending sessions, meeting new connections, and absorbing all the great information to build your business. But after the sessions and networking events wrap up, you’ll have some time to explore the amazing sites of Midtown Manhattan. Here are a few things you might consider adding to your “must-see” list that are within walking distance from the New York Hilton Midtown Hotel.

10 exciting NYC sights you need to check out while at Inman Connect New York, April 19-21:

  1. Museum of Modern Art. MoMA is directly across the street from the New York Hilton Midtown Hotel where the event will be held (and hopefully where you’ll be staying). If you get a break in the day or can get over there before it closes at 5:30 pm, MoMA is an art enthusiast’s dream. If you can’t make it to the museum itself, check out the Modern Bar Room, the restaurant attached to the museum with rich food textures and a welcoming vibe. Or go up to the sixth floor to the Terrace Room and, weather permitting, enjoy a lovely spring respite on the terrace for a light lunch.
  2. Radio City Music Hall. As it happens, New Zealand sensation Lorde will be performing at RCMH on April 19th, the first night of ICNY. But you don’t have to attend a concert to explore the legendary Radio City Music Hall, just two blocks from the hotel, for some Insta-worthy pics of yourself and the new friends you’ll make at ICNY.
  3. Grand Central Terminal.  If you think this is just a transportation hub, you’re missing out on some of the coolest aesthetics New York City has to offer. This place is a romantic hotspot, serving as a backdrop in numerous movies and TV shows. With so many turn-of-the-century features, like the Grand Central Clock and the breathtaking architecture, it’s a great spot for people-watching, too. Don’t forget to look up and see the gorgeous turquoise ceiling. And you can pop into the famous Grand Central Oyster Bar.
  4. Rockefeller Center.  Just four blocks from the hotel, Rockefeller Center is one spot you’ll want to spend a lot of time exploring. You can take a tour of the NBC Studios, take a turn around the Rink at Rockefeller Center, or head straight to the Top of the Rock, the rooftop observation deck of 30 Rockefeller Plaza with 360-degree views of New York City. Plan ahead if you want to take in this attraction – you can expect to have a bit of a wait to get to the Top of the Rock.
  5. Cherry Blossoms in Central Park.  If you’re ready to experience a real springtime feeling, a stroll through the cherry blossoms will make you come alive. Cherry blossoms can be found throughout Central Park, which is just 2 blocks from the hotel. Check out this map of the cherry trees in Central Park to plan your walking adventure.
  6. Pebble Bar.  If you’re a history buff, this little bar, embedded between the buildings at the corner of 6th and 49th streets, is a definite landmark. It recently opened as the Pebble Bar but has a long and storied history. It’s surrounded by Rockefeller Plaza and sticks out because of its distinctive four-story slate-gray brick facade situated among all the towering buildings of Rockefeller Plaza. Before it became Pebble Bar, it housed a long-time favorite local establishment called Hurley’s. Frequented by figureheads and celebrities from 30 Rock’s NBC studios, it quickly found its niche among the local workers, writers and local New Yorkers. Jack Kerouac, David Letterman, Henry Kissinger, Howard Hughes and Johnny Carson have all found solace with a brew at Hurley’s. Check out the latest incarnation at Pebble Bar while you’re in Rockefeller Plaza.
  7. Empire State Building. This iconic building is just a 20-minute walk from the hotel. Once the tallest building in the world, people have been ogling the views from the observation deck of the Empire State Building since 1931. Truly breathtaking views of New York City await you.
  8. 5th Avenue.  Whether or not you’re looking to make a purchase, this is still worth a stroll. You can do a little window shopping at Tiffany & Co. a la Breakfast at Tiffany’s or take your pick of the numerous storefront windows including Kate Spade, Bergdorf Goodman, Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo and an endless sea of others.
  9. Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.  If you’re into architecture, you’ll be drawn to this Neo-Gothic church in the bustling 5th avenue area of Midtown. It’s only one block from the hotel and definitely worth your time to stop and take a peek inside.
  10. Times Square.  It’s always daytime in Times Square. Most of the locals don’t go to the Square; it’s really crowded and you need to be extra aware of pick-pocketers, but it’s definitely something you should see at least once in your lifetime. If you have a little time to kill one evening after ICNY, take a stroll down and behold the magnificence that is Times Square. (Just hold onto your purse or wallet!)
